Exercise bikes – an old favourite but still effective at burning calories

Exercise bikes are one of the most popular home gym fitness machines. They're great for burning calories and you can cycle in doors while watching your favourite programs on television and avoiding having to go out cycling in poor weather. Exercise bikes generally come in two formats – upright exercise bikes like the Schwinn 140 Upright bike and recumbent exercise bikes like the Schwinn 230 recumbent bike. The upright bikes simply have the seat and pedals in a similar arrangement to a real bike, but the seat much higher and your legs pointing down. Recumbent exercise bikes have the seat and the pedals more or less on the same horizontal level. Personally I prefer the recumbent exercise bikes as I feel I can get more push using the back of the seat to help me generate a bigger force in my thighs.
