Experts Agree on Strategy for Treating Pre-Diabetes

A press release from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists outlines a plan (the first of its kind for this condition) of care for people with prediabetes involving lifestyle and “pharmaceutical” intervention.

Pre-diabetes is a serious problem (more than 56 million in the US), with most not being diagnosed) that is defined by “elevated fasting glucose levels or impaired glucose tolerance”, and currently there are no medications or therapies to treat patients with prediabetes.  The plan involves lifestyle changes, and in some cases medication to treat “complications” like problems with blood pressure, cholesterol etc.
