Chamomile Tea may protect against diabetic complications

Matricaria chamomilla L., known as “chamomile” or “manzanilla” is used in herbal teas and remedies.  An investigation showed that a chamomile “hot water extract” fed to diabetic rats, suppressed blood glucose levels.  An increase in liver glycogen levels was also seen.

The extract also showed significant inhibition of certain enzymes and sorbitol, both of which are linked to an increase in diabetic complications

The results of this study suggest that daily consumption of chamomile tea with meals may help prevent the progress of hyperglycemia and diabetic complications.
